Graduating students in 2023: First and foremost, congratulations! You should be proud of your accomplishments. We encourage you to make your own decision about taking part in the Iron Ring Ceremony. Do make sure you read the obligation you will be asked to recite in advance of the ceremony, and ensure you are comfortable with all elements of it. Whether you participate or not, we support you and hope you’ll join the conversation.

Engineering faculty members: Especially if you teach graduating students, consider speaking to your students about the ceremony. Reach out to us if you want resources/slides, as some of the Retool the Ring group members have made these presentations to their engineering students.

Camp Wardens: We understand and appreciate that change takes time, and there is a goal of change for the 100th anniversary in 2025. We appreciate your willingness to engage in this difficult process. However, at this point, we are disappointed by the lack of response to our initial recommendations in the your public actions and communications, including the poetry and video calls (most relevant perhaps are those asking for acknowledgement of harm and including engineers who have been excluded). We continue to call on the Seven Wardens to broadly listen to and engage meaningfully with multiple, diverse stakeholders - including but not limited to our group - as they proceed with the Ritual review and change process. To this point, we have not seen evidence of engagement with anyone outside of the Wardens in the change process.

Members Of the Engineering Community: Please consider reading about experiences beyond your own, engaging in open minded discussions fueled by curiosity, and encouraging others to do the same.
